In the heart of Saminaka community, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, lies a farmland that once stood as a symbol of hope, livelihood, and sustenance for an entire family.
Today, that same farm lies submerged, destroyed by the recent floods that recently swept across the region.
For the farmer and his family, the rising waters did not just wash away crops, they erased months of back-breaking labor, the promise of a harvest, and the income that would have sustained them through the year.
The recent flooding in Adamawa State has left thousands displaced, homes destroyed, and farmland ruined. For communities like Saminaka, where farming is a primary source of income and food security, the destruction is catastrophic. Families who once relied on these fertile fields now face hunger, poverty, and uncertainty about how they will survive in the months ahead.
What makes this tragedy even more painful is that it is not just about lost harvests, it is about children going to bed hungry, women struggling to find food for their households, and elderly farmers watching their only source of livelihood drown before their eyes.
At Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach (LESGO), we believe no family should be left behind in times of crisis. This is why we are working tirelessly through our Provision of Emergency Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) Project in flood-affected LGAs including Girei, Fufore, and Yola South.
Our mission is simple but urgent:
Provide immediate relief to flood victims through cash assistance so they can meet urgent needs like food, shelter, and healthcare.
Distribute life-saving information on flood preparedness and survival, so communities are better equipped for the future.
Restore dignity to families who have lost everything, by giving them the power of choice in how to rebuild their lives.
This farmlands destroyed in Saminaka is just one story among thousands. Each destroyed field, each submerged home, each displaced family reminds us why we cannot afford to slow down in our response.
The devastation caused by the Adamawa floods is more than a statistic, it is human lives shattered. Families are in urgent need of:
Emergency shelter and food
Healthcare and medicines
Psychosocial support to cope with trauma
Long-term recovery plans to rebuild livelihoods
This is why we are calling on partners, donors, and compassionate individuals to join us in standing with flood-affected communities. Together, we can ensure that families like the farmer in Saminaka do not have to face despair alone.
While emergency response is critical, we also recognize the urgent need for long-term solutions. Strengthening early warning systems, improving drainage infrastructure, and promoting community-led disaster preparedness are key steps that can reduce the impact of floods in the future.
At LESGO, our vision is not just to respond to disasters, but to build resilient communities where no farmer has to watch his year’s work vanish in a single flood.

We are working round the clock because the families affected by these floods cannot wait. Their survival depends on how quickly and effectively we respond, and together, we can make that response stronger.
