LESGO’s effort in combating cholera outbreak in Adamawa state.

In response to a recent cholera outbreak in Yola South, our team at Grassroot Life Saving Outreach – LESGO swiftly mobilized to support the health and safety of affected communities. Cholera, a severe illness often spread through contaminated water, poses a significant risk, especially in areas where access to clean water and sanitation facilities is limited. To tackle this urgent issue, we implemented a targeted chlorination and fumigation campaign, addressing both water quality and environmental cleanliness to protect the community from further spread.

One of the leading causes of cholera transmission is contaminated water, and without immediate intervention, it can quickly infect large populations. Recognizing this, our team began by treating local water sources with safe levels of chlorine to kill harmful bacteria, providing residents with safer, potable water. This chlorination effort is crucial, not only for immediate protection but also to reduce the likelihood of future outbreaks in the community.

Clean water is the foundation of health, and by safeguarding this essential resource, we are empowering communities to take control of their well-being.

Beyond water treatment, we extended our efforts through a comprehensive fumigation exercise, focusing on public areas such as marketplaces, schools, and gathering spots. Fumigation plays a critical role in combating bacteria and other contaminants that can linger on surfaces and in the air, increasing the risk of transmission in commonly used spaces. By fumigating these areas, we are helping to ensure that people can go about their daily lives with reduced risk, fostering an environment where health and safety come first.

While our immediate goal is to curb the spread of cholera, our actions in Yola South are part of a broader vision for sustained health and safety improvements. By addressing the root causes of cholera—unsafe water and lack of sanitation—our team is laying the groundwork for long-term benefits. We hope to inspire communities and local leaders to prioritize clean water initiatives and enhanced hygiene practices, fostering resilience against future health threats.

Our Commitment to Health Equity

At LESGO, we firmly believe that access to clean water and a safe living environment is a basic human right, not a privilege. The cholera outbreak in Yola South underscores the urgent need for comprehensive water and sanitation solutions, especially in underserved areas. As part of our core mission, we remain committed to promoting health equity and are honoured to stand by each family affected by this outbreak. Our work does not end with this initial response; we will continue to collaborate with local stakeholders, community members, and health authorities to fortify public health systems and prevent future crises.

The road to a healthier future requires persistent effort and collaboration, and with every intervention, we aim to bring this vision closer to reality. Together, we can reduce preventable diseases like cholera and work towards a future where every community has access to the resources needed to thrive. Let’s continue to champion health, sanitation, and safety in Yola South and beyond.
