LESGO Conducts Medical Outreach to Communities in Madagali and Yola South LGA.
The lean season can be a challenging time for communities, especially in areas where access to essential healthcare is limited. In response, Grassroot Life Savings Outreach – LESGO launched the “Provision of Lean Season Essential Community Health Services for Prevention of Disease Outbreaks, SRH, and WASH in Selected Communities project across Yola South and Madagali LGAs”. This initiative, driven by our mobile outreach team, aims to address critical health needs directly within these communities, particularly during a time when vulnerabilities are heightened.
One of the most impactful aspects of this project is the deployment of mobile clinics. In October, our dedicated outreach team conducted vital medical visits across Yola South and Madagali, delivering comprehensive healthcare services to underserved communities such as Ngorure, Shuwa, Wanuki Gulak, Malkohi, Saminaka, and several others. These mobile clinics are instrumental in reaching remote areas, where the nearest health facility can be hours away, ensuring that residents can receive medical support without the barrier of distance.
Equipped with essential medications, health kits, and trained medical staff, our mobile team offered treatment for common illnesses, administered necessary drugs, and distributed health supplies. This direct approach allows us to address both immediate health needs and prevent potential outbreaks, especially critical during the lean season when weakened immunity and malnutrition make communities more susceptible to illness.
Preventing disease outbreaks is a core goal of our lean season project. During the outreach, our team focused on promoting preventative healthcare practices, recognizing that proactive care is as essential as treatment. Through health education and hands-on support, we are helping community members understand basic hygiene, sanitation, and disease prevention practices. These measures are vital in reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and other health threats, which are prevalent in regions with limited access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
In addition, the mobile team distributed health kits containing items that promote hygiene and protect against illnesses, such as soaps, disinfectants, and oral rehydration solutions. These supplies are not only practical for immediate use but also contribute to longer-term health resilience.
Alongside disease prevention, we are committed to supporting the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs of these communities. During the outreach, our team provided education and services tailored to meet the unique health requirements of women and young girls. In many of these communities, access to reproductive health services is limited, and the outreach offered an opportunity to address this gap by delivering much-needed supplies and information. Women were provided with hygiene kits containing items like sanitary products, which are critical for maintaining dignity and health.
The lean season brings unique challenges, but with the support of our mobile team, we aim to strengthen community resilience, helping individuals remain healthy and empowered even in difficult circumstances. By offering consistent outreach, we hope to foster trust and ensure that every community member has access to life-saving healthcare. Each visit brings us closer to our vision of healthier, more resilient communities in Yola South and Madagali LGAs.
Through this project, LESGO is committed to making healthcare accessible for all, regardless of location or circumstances. We remain dedicated to our mission of supporting these communities with quality health services, disease prevention resources, and the knowledge they need to maintain well-being through every season. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the health and future of people Yola South, Madagali Local Government Area and Adamawa state as a whole.
