LESGO’s Ongoing MPCA Project in Girei and Fufore LGAs to help Flood Victims

Floods continue to pose a serious threat to vulnerable communities across Adamawa State, leaving behind a trail of displacement, destroyed livelihoods, and health risks. In response, Grassroots Lifesaving Outreach (LESGO) is implementing the “Provision of Emergency Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) Project to cushion the harsh impact of the recent floods on households in Girei and Fufore LGAs of Adamawa State” to help those affected by flood.

Our approach goes beyond relief — it is about building resilience, preparedness, and dignity among flood-affected populations.

To ensure that we reach the most vulnerable and help those who needed help the most, we made sure that every step of our intervention was inclusive, transparent, and community-driven.

Verification Exercise: Ensuring Fair and Transparent Cash Assistance

Over the weekend, our team was on the ground in Girei and Fufore LGAs to conduct beneficiary verification exercises ahead of cash assistance distribution.

This process is crucial to ensure that assistance reaches the right people — those most affected and most in need. During the exercise, our team carefully:

  • Confirmed beneficiary identities to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Prioritized vulnerable households, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
  • Engaged community leaders and stakeholders to promote fairness, transparency, and trust in the process.

The cash support that follows will empower families to meet urgent needs such as food, shelter, healthcare, and clothing, while giving them the dignity of choice in recovery.

IEC Materials Distribution

As part of the same project, LESGO also visited the affected communities to distribute Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on flood preparedness and survival strategies.

Our outreach focused on teaching residents how to:

  • Recognize early warning signs of flooding
  • Take practical steps to stay safe during flood emergencies
  • Adopt resilient practices that reduce risks and protect lives

By equipping communities with knowledge, we are reducing vulnerability and increasing preparedness. For many families in flood-prone areas, this knowledge can mean the difference between life and death.

LESGO’s MPCA project is not just about emergency relief — it is about empowering flood-affected communities to recover and build resilience. Through cash assistance, families can address their most pressing needs, while awareness and education ensure they are better prepared for future disasters.

Our work in this communities, shows that when humanitarian response is community-centered and inclusive, it not only restores hope but also strengthens trust and collaboration.

At LESGO and we remain committed to saving lives, restoring dignity, and building resilience in vulnerable communities. But we cannot do it alone.
